4 stars The third Gentle Giant album tells the story of three schoolfriends growing up. It's not one of the big concept album from that time (maybe it's to short for that) but it's musically interesting and an important step for the development of the band's typical style. Unlike many bands these days Gentle Giant were not meant to dance one summer only, they needed and took the time to get better from release to release. To me "Three friends" is the first "fullworth" Giant album, "full-blown" with the band's expression and with a lot of surprises, including only songs that can stand to compare to the later ones, especially "Peel the Paint" and "Mr. Class & Quality".
