MASTER OF PUPPETS

"Battery" - Fast hard thrash metal. As with many previous tracks from the band I don't like the anthemic shouting style of the vocals. Nothing wrong with the music though. The track seems kind of disjointed in places.

"Master of Puppets" - Formulaic thrash metal until just before the midpoint of the track when the hardcore, harsh sound sweetens a great deal before returning to thrash but in an interesting way for a while before returning to the beginning thrash route.

"The thing that should not be" - Lovecraft again? The track doesn't do much for me other than hold my interest until it just goes on and on for way too long.

"Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" - Nice, interesting acoustic opening. Dramatic. For me, thus far into it, the best track on the album. Nice segue into harder territory later on. Goes on a little longer that I'd have liked.

"Disposable Heroes" - Hardcore thrash opens the track and doesn't exit until the end. Sounds kind of samey in the Metallica vein. Ooooooh no - goes on and on and on. Have to walk away to breathe some air.

"Leper Messiah" - An interesting riff driven rythm to start. Sheesh these guys need an anger management course or something. The music in my head just reverts to a thumping reverberating sound. Which doesn't go away throughout the track. The lead later on in the track kind of pours salt onto the open wound that my head is becoming.

"Orion" - An instrumental track that is a welcome break that I enjoy although it does go on way too long.

"Damage, Inc" -

Uummmmm - Nope! This hasn't made me enjoy Metallica all the more. I really enjoyed the bands second offering but this kind of sent me back into migraine territory with its almost constant barrage of the same old, same old right the way through except for a few sparse interludes out of hardcore territory. I love Metal but this is kind of like watching hours of hardcore porn or extreme horror movies at a stretch. A two star thing for me. If you love melody stay well away.
