4 stars ACT is a fun-loving and disco-loving hard rock, sometimes metal band from Sweden. And with songs such as Hippest Flop (or, Hip Pest Flop, as sometimes I've seen this title written) and She.Male how could you not be fun? OK, sometimes they're serious. But mostly they love good melodic hooks. They also tend to abruptly switch between heavier and more poppy, sometimes borderline saccharine, keyboard-led sections, often within the same verse. That might seem really progressive, or jarring, depending on your point of view. What detracts me slightly from Imaginary Friends is the dirty, cavernous guitar sound, coming across as if someone turned on the surround option on an 90s boom box. But hey, ACT is the only band me and my wife can listen to together, and for that I am grateful.
