4 stars Mindcrime at the Moore shows Queensr˙che playing both parts Operation Mindcrime in their entirety. I got to see them in Atlanta, and the show is almost identical to the one here in their hometown of Seattle. The band really gives you a night at the theater with hired actors, a set, and even a drum corps that assists Scott Rockenfield at times. Over teh years, various musicians like Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Alice Cooper have complimented the inherent theatricality of QR's music. If Alice Cooper thinks you're theatrical, you're theatrical. If you weren't a fan of Operation Mindcrime II, I suggest picking this up. It shows just how well Tate can still sing; he gives much stronger and more passionate performances than in the studio version.

It's also interesting to note how well the two parts flow into one another. II sounds like the natural follow-up to I. However, there is a difference in sound, as the first is primarily vocal-driven while the new addition is instrument-driven, likely out of consideration of Geoff's reduced range. However, Geoff still ahs that amazing control of his and I was captivated the whole time, both at the concert I attended and on this DVD. The bonus features are slim but good. There is a tour documentary, some footage of the band's motorcycle ride for Save the Music, and the highlight, video of the band performing The Chase with Ronnie James Dio as Dr. X.

For established fans of QR, I highly recommed picking this up. For newbies, get the studio version of OM 1 first, but this is a good early purchase to get into the band. The first part isn't as good as the studio version, but the second half blows OMII out of the water.

Grade: B
