4 stars Event is one of the most under-rated bands of the entire progressive genre. Over the course of their three albums they did something all too many progressive rock/metal bands forget to do which is to actually progress. While their debut album is an amazing achievement unto itself, it is not unlike many other contemporary releases of the progressive metal genre. However, Human Condition, their second album, sees a vast departure from the cliches that are sometimes all too familiar sounding and has them heading into experimental territory with samples, loops, and other studio editing tricks creating a sound that was ahead of its time in the progressive realm. Only a couple of years later you find a similar approach being utilized by genre veterans, Kevin Moore, Jim Matheos, and Mike Portnoy on the first OSI album. Though not as polished as the band's final album, Human Condition shows the possibilities of what is to come and sets itself apart as a truly unique sounding album.
