4 stars Good show, old chaps.

This unusual pairing with Dave Cousins and German uber fan Conny Conrad is a pleasent suprise. Recorded in 2005, the album shows off both the songs The Call to Action and Deep In The Darkest Night some four-five years before they showed up on Strawbs' The Broken Hearted Bride album. Both are in superior forms as the first is more striped down and the second features the beautiful piano playing of a guesting Rick Wakeman.

The Rose, It's Just My Way of Loving You and Not Another Day show flashes of the old Dave Cousins quality writing and his vocals are among the best he's recorded in some twenty odd years.

Conrad is a multi instrumentalist and supplies all the backing music in grand (but occasionally programmed sounding) style while his guitar playing is incredibly melodic and gives Mr. Cousins' music a fresh, modern feel. My only complaint is a somewhat 'homemade' sound to this album's recording and mixing as the "two Cs" were not using the best microphones for their vocals, but it's a minor quibble.

Definitely one of the better 'late' era offerings from Dave Cousins. 4 stars. Any fan of the Hero And Heroine era Strawbs should love this.
