4 stars A new singer, a new bassist, and one of the best band line-ups in the History of Music is here. What they did? A monumental album!

That's what the Fantastic Five did in their first attempt, track-by-track:

Speed King: BOOM! A bold introduction to the new, hard rock Deep Purple! I don't particularly like this song, but it's definitely a very impressive way to grab you by the hair for what you are about o receive!

Bloodsucker: Straight forward rocker, with a nice riff and great section of successive guitar and keyboard mini solos in the middle. Not a classic, but a very good song.

Child In Time: One of the best songs in History. Period.

Flight Of The Rat: Black Sabbath might very well been inspired by that riff for their own After Forever second riff! Give them a listen back to back and you 'll see what I'm talking about. Here we have a very good fast rocker, with great performances by all the members of the group. It's the "Highway Star" of In Rock, the second best song of the album.

Into The Fire: Excellent heavy riff, emboldened by the simultaneous play of Lord and Blackmore. Great song, the most catchy of the album.

Living Wreck: Very smart lyrics, and yet another very good hard rocker. They were on fire on this album!

Hard Lovin' Man: Orgasmic performance with concert-like improvisations by Lord and Blackmore, and the most memorable Gillan performance after Child In Time (obviously). It's chaotic, so it looses some points as a studio performance. If it was a live one it would be great, but I like a studio recording to be tighter.

RATING: 4 stars without a second thought. Not a single bad song, not even a mediocre one. All of them range from very good to absolutely majestic. You must own this one!
