NATURAL ELEMENTS

Here we have the famous John Mclaughlin teamed up with three outstanding Indian musicians fusing jazz with eastern folk and various other elements to create some incredible and intriguing music. All instrumental!!. Mclaughling (guitar) and Shankar (violin) are always at the forefront, leading the way with great skill and great melodies. The other two guys play various percussion instruments giving a natural and acoustic feel to the music. There's really no point in reviewing this song by song so I'll just say that in this album you'll find pretty much everything, from furious acoustic rythms to gentle atmospheric tunes. Of course, the technical skills displayed throughout cannot go overlooked. The interplay between Mclaughlin and Shankar is so fast and precise it's ridiculous, but it never feels like technical "show off" (speed for the sake of speed), the melodies are always warm and refreshing, in other words, they have SOUL.

Anyway, "Natural Elements" is a great musical and spiritual experience. Jazz Fusion fans will surely appreciate it.
