4 stars The River Sessions is a solo recording of Bert Jansch recorded for Scottish BBC Radio Clyde in 1974. This is Bert at his post Pentangle peak with an enthusiastic Bert in fine voice and sharp as a tack with his considerable guitar skills. He even brakes out his 1965 instrumental "Angi", a rairity, but not out of place here as Bert as tackles two more tough instrumentals in "Lady Nothynges Toye Puffe" and "Chambertin". Wrapped around these are wonderful versions of Bert's poetically lyrical songs like "One For Joe", "Fresh As A Sweet Sunday Morning" and the autobiographical "Build Another Band". There are a few live solo Jansch albums but none as memorable or enjoyable as this one, and the sound quality of this recording is fantastic.
