2 stars Probably their weakest album besides When Dream And Day Unite and they know it too.

Falling Into Infinity supposedly comes at a time where Dream Theater were being hounded by their record label to become way more accessible than their previous albums were - essentially to move with the times into the grungey years of music. What results is a band playing mostly a list of songs they don't even want to do. Lyrics surface such as those on You Not Me that suggests the band is not quite happy with the direction they had to go in.

Some of the songs on here are nice. Peruvian Skies and Burning My Soul the pick of the rock songs, Lines in the Sand and Trial Of Tears are nice and laid back for Dream Theater, and if you get past the cheese of the ballads Hollow Years, Take Away My Pain and Anna Lee, there exists a record that could have been so much better. They decided to do that on the next album instead
