LED ZEPPELIN

Clearly not a " progressive rock" band, this rock band nevertheless was formative in the overall progression of rock in general. Led Zeppelin I is a classic recording of blistering, hard blues rock. Page's guitar solos on this recording are the stuff of legend and Plant's vocals are stirring. A first record and it is absolutely cohesive and musically polished. "Good Times, Bad Times", "Dazed and Confused", and "Communication Breakdown" are timeless rock anthems. Hard rock and heavy metal as well as their offspring styles and subgenres (included many covered on this site) would really not exist had it not been for the contributions of Led Zeppelin. On the basis of its historical importance to the development of rock music in general, the contributions of the first four albums of this band are simply unfathomable. From the perspective of a progressive rock enthusiast who has eclectic tastes and who appreciates other forms of music, this record is a near-masterpiece and rates 4+/5 stars.
