BORBOLETTA

While by all accounts, Boboletta is a good Santana album, it falls flat as simply being subpar in comparison to the tremendous standards Santana had set for themselves in their first four albums. I have neglected thus far to listen to Welcome, and I was expecting another Caravanserai with this album. The sixth album by Santana doesn't even come close to the majestic rhythms and song structure of Santana's fourth, which is probably the biggest flaw with this album: it's simply disappointing, and therefore, less enjoyable.

Better suited for fans of Santana, Borboletta is barely saved from mediocrity by the great track Promise of a Fisherman, which is the only hint of Santana's former glory on this record. Bottom line: get the first four albums or Moonflower before deciding to pick this one up. Rounded up to 3 stars.
