3 stars The Nice represent the first stage of Symphonic Prog. At the same time The Nice is expression of Keith Emerson. The music of The Nice is,obviously for those time, a sort of Psychedelic Rock with Symphonic inserton. In my opinion The Nice are more near at Deep Purple Mk I, Iron Butterfly or Vanilla Fudge that at Yes or Genesis. I must admit that music that it is included in this compilation is extreme innovative for the end of 60's, secure more that the music of Procol Harum or The Moody Blues. But also of the music of ELP. It would have to analyze also the musical education of Emerson: That is all based on Classic Music. So The Immediate Recordings is a good introduction in the world of early Prog.

As for the introduction the analysis of the songs it cannot not hold account of the musical fervor of the period. And in fact Psychedelic and Classic Music are in the same plan. But clearly in this case is the Symphonic element that win. So if Hang On To A Dream is an emotional ballad, sureAzrael is pure Psychedelic Rock. But the cover (of Classic Music) are Heavy Prog or Proto Symphonic Prog... In order not to say a mix of all this but too much embryonically.

So The Immediate Recordings is good for these motives. But for the rest The Immediate Recordings does not represent that one phase or style of early Prog. But nothing more, also for the story of music.
