4 stars Chamber me gently.

"ambit" has been created and released by an electronika / jazz-oriented chamber septet The CELLAR AND POINT in 2014. According to my avantgarde progressive friend Ian, they launch avantgarde jazz rather than rock especially on stage (envy really), but this album sounds more of experimental jazz rock / chamber rock seriously. Their melodic and rhythmic lines are slightly complex and fastidious but mysteriously acceptable and addictive like multi-rhythmic fatal movement in a uterus. Sounds jazzier and less electronic than Microkingdom. Perfect for us to listen with a mixed but enjoyable feeling.

Tracks like "arc" or "purple octagon" produced with light rhythmic touches and streaming, floating melody lines are exactly our comfort. On the other hand, in "tabletop (a)" one of my favourite tracks and sorta masterpiece the audience could find the similar vein of jazzy King Crimson Discipline era seasoned with gentle chamber flavour, not sure if they might have been inspired by early 70s British progressive rock scene though. "f'nf canons i, op.16" has mystic instability in that we definitely get immersed. They might place uneasy tracks and peaceful ones alternately, well-balanced. Via "white cylinder (a)" or "white cylinder (b)" colourful sound / atmosphere / fluid variations can be heard. Not only jazz, avantgarde, nor electronic, but also hard rock, psychedelic, minimalism, or Canterbury ... continued until the titled epilogue flooded with mad dark ambient.

Quite flexible but incredibly crystallized. A fascinating stuff really.
