![]() To be honest, this almost instrumental work (but so will be / was ''Sarabandes'') is not really exciting here. The flavour heads much more in the jazz-rock territory than anything else. The whole of their first work (which was called ''Envol Triangles'') is just a collection of pure jazz oriented music. It is very difficult to differentiate ''Hydromel'' from ''Balivernes'' or from the title track. I would say that all these tracks are pretty average and uninspired. One has of course to imagine that this was a very early recording and can be almost regarded as a demo work. Still, it is not brilliant. Mostly repetitive and boring music like ''Dans Le Doute''. The only track that stands out is the Crimsonian oriented ''Ronde''. At least for the first third of the song. This long tracks is switching between strong keys and fine fluting but the global impression of a strong hermetic music prevails. It is no wonder if this type of records remained unknown at the time of recording. Even if the tracks that belong to ''Les Saisons Marines'' can be considered as better, they aren't jewels of music. I like instrumental music, but when it brings so little passion, I can't really be thrilled. I wouldn't say that the music played here is bad. Let's do justice to these musicians. But the work (s) they put together here is (are) just not good. No highlights, no great breaks (even that). Just below average and repetitive music. As such: two stars.
