3 stars US act 5uu's were something of a legendary outfit in the RIO/Avant scene from what I understand, but if this 2004 release is the best introduction to their output I really don't know.

On the three compositions on this EP we're treated to a peculiar style of music; dramatic and bombastic in manner, chaotic and aggressive in style. The piano, played with distinct jazz leanings, is an element in all three tunes here; with the jazzy tendencies eased up now and then with the insertion of dissonant bursts. Treated vocals from the weird side of the effects table, extremely distorted guitar chords, quirky and distorted drums and some highly experimental sax playing accompanies the piano one or more times; and sounds and noises are added to give the performance a slight industrial feel.

The band seek out contrasts and disharmonies all along, highlighting the differences in sound between the individual instruments and samples used. Many segments and ideas are rather interesting though; despite the odd cacophonic parts used a bit to extensively.

The songs are well played though; and if you fancy distorted, chaotic music seeking out extremes and throwing anything reeking of subtleties and nuances away this one might be worthwhile checking out; especially if you find dissonances and disharmonies to be compelling.
