THREE OF A PERFECT PAIR

It's well-known that the album was divided into two parts: the first four tracks (pop-ish, accessible) and the last five tracks (not as accessible and generally much more interesting ;).

Three of A Perfect Pair is the strongest of the pop songs. Model Man is a song which Adrian Belew has stated on his blog that is one of his two songwriting regrets in King Crimson (the other is Two Hands). It's okay. Sleepless is good. Man with an Open Heart is pretty good, albeit simple.

Now... the second half of this album is what it's all about!! Seriously, TOAPP and the second half truly make this record. Of these, Dig Me is probably the weakest. I feel they could have done more with the chorus section, which is very simple. The main riff is a bit repetitive.

Overall, this is a highly underrated King Crimson album. In my opinion, they would not rise again to the level of this album's second half until the ProjeKcts releases in the late 1990's.

(Notes: if you like the second half of this album, I highly recommend to you Projekct X's Heaven and Earth. Also, many of the songs on here also appeared on King Crimson's 1984 album, Absent Lovers. The versions of Industry and Larks' Tongues in Aspic III on there are very strong, if not superior to those on Three of a Perfect Pair.)
