5 stars This recalls those school days when I first purchased Archives - and what a record! Originally a budget priced tie up of the first three lp's into one package, it also served as an introduction to one of the finest prog metal bands of all time. From their early, pre-Neil Peart debut, they rock like no others although a healthy upbringing of Zep,The Who, even Sabs is evident. From Fly by Night we see the dawn of what you could say was Rush's golden age, where their craft was born on Peart's arrival as uber-drummer and unique lyricist. Caress of Steel hones their musical skills and displays the bands full range, from all out rockers (check out Bastille Day) to soft middle earth lullaby's during the epic Fountain of Lamneth. First timers-check this out, as its a perfect introduction to what Rush is all about.
