4 stars Death was always my favorite death metal band. They easily could mix brutality with virtuosity. Spiritual Healing is their 3rd album and Rick Rozz was replaced by James Murphy to record this stuff. Unfortunatelly short before promotional tour Chuck decided not to go to Europe, James left for Obituary and remaining two hired new musicians to countinue as Death. Many people from here hated Schuldinner for that decision but when he visited Europe later back with Death everything was fine (was there, saw it, loved it). I still think Spiritual Healing is great album even though I'm not into such heavy music now. It starts with awesome Living Monstrosity. James Murphy is god I swear. He cracks short arpeggios like that. Amazing solos on the whole release. This first tune is great but not the only great song on this album. Altering The Future, Within The Mind very good pieces of music. Some say it's not so brutal if compared with previous albums. But who cares. It's still death metal. Spiritual Healing is true epic death metal song. Great harmonies starts it and that incredible solos could ashame many classical metal bands. If we talk about solos listen also to these in Low Life. It's one of my favorite Death song ever. I remember Genetic Reconstruction was played on the radio (yes!) when I was 14. I was Death fan back then and I miss those times sometimes. Of course it wasn't played in mainstream radio station but who cares when it was popular among young people back then. Today popular is rap. Wake me when it's over. And play some Death record to me.
