5 stars My history with prog is new. My choice was always hard rock, metal, jazz or world music. Now I'm gettin deeper and deeper into this fantastic world of and I have found a lot of incredible music jewels, just as Kansas debut album. For sure I knew Kansas was a big name in rock and many people are more familiar with the "AOR" tunes than with the real prog. My first approach was "Leftoverture", a great, great album with this terrific song named "Carry on Wayward Son", I have listened it thousand of times (thanks Guitar Hero, too) and I never get tired of it. So, if this is really good why not try their other stuff? I didnt know what to expect of it. I listened the best of before and it was cool, but nothing as Leftoverture. Oh my when I play the debut album, I couldnt believe what a rocker is. There is rock, there is energy, there is melody, there is prog, there is virtuosity, there is a great voice... I mean this is a solid production, the kind of power and prowess I've found only in 70's records. I have listened as far as "Drastic Measures" and I can say the debut is one of the best Kansas albums, alongside "Leftoverture", period; but that doesn't mean that even their lowest rated albums are worthless...Kansas is such a great, great band. Yes, I am a Kansas fan now, and this day I can't understand why it is sometimes underrated and despised (by older people than me -i'm 30- who grew up listening to them in AOR radio stations and got tired of, perhaps?
