1 stars The 21st Mutiny in Jonestown studio album is an homage to one of my favorite non-prog bands. REM. Throughout the early to mid 80's when prog had gone mostly underground (I didn't discover Marillion, IQ, Twelfth Night, Pallas, etc until many years later) or mutated into things I didn't like, REM was one of the few bands that I really got excited about. I always wanted to break out a Rickenbacker 12 string and take on my favorite REM songs, and decided this was the right time. I covered 12 REM songs and not surprisingly the arrangements sound nothing like prog! In fact, track 13, labeled as, "Top Secret Bonus Track" is actually a cover of The Pixies, "Here Comes Your Man". You can't get much further away from prog than that!

Obviously this album isn't made for prog fans so it gets the dubious honor of being the first 1 star Mutiny in Jonestown album! Not because it's a poor album because it's not, but because it would only be of interest to someone who wants to hear Mutiny in Jonestown covering REM more than me...and I seriously doubt there's anyone out there who would fit that mold!
