THE PEEL SESSIONS 1971/1974

A decent release of some BBC sessions from classic-era Gong. Whilst there's some overlap with the material on the new Love From the Planet Gong boxed set, and before that the Live Etc. double album, this isn't entirely redundant; in particular, to my knowledge this is the only official source of the 1971 Peel Session, featuring tracks from Camembert Electrique and the Magick Brother/Mystic Sister album. Live Gong can be a bit of an eye-opener if you're used to their studio albums - sure, Daevid Allen's sense of humour is present and correct and if anything has even more scope to run free, but the instrumentalists also have more room to breathe - and this is as good an introduction to that as any.
