5 stars maudlin of the Well make a comeback in 2009!

The beauty laced in this record is unbelievable. Every song recorded for this new (free) album is masterful and the album itself flows perfectly. The use of violin, saxophone, and other orchestral instruments give the record a very organic feel. The musicianship on this record still amazes me, even from hearing all other kayo dot and maudlin albums. The production is also much cleaner on this as opposed to many other Kayo Dot or maudlin albums.

An Excerpt From 6,000,000,000,000 Miles Before The First, Or, The Revisitation Of The Blue Ghost (1999-2009) : Great song! Has a spacy feel to it. Reminiscent of songs off of Bath. (9/10)

Another Excerpt: Keep Light Near You, Even When Dying (1997-2009) The weakest track in my opinion, but not a bad track at all. It has a very Avant Garde sound to it. It is also the shortest track (8/10)

Rose Quartz Turn to Glass The first half is a beautiful neo-classical jam. The second is a Floydish sounding part after a quiet bittersweet violin section. (9.5/10)

Clover Gardland Island This song is a real trip. After some heavy guitar chords, the band breaks out into a 70's sounding prog jam, which melts into a very atmospheric part. The lyrics are mysterious, and the composition as a whole is beautiful! (10/10)

Laboratories Of The Invisible World (Rollerskating the Cosmic Palmistric Postborder) (2005-2009) The epic finale! Laboratories is stunning! It sounds just like classic maudlin, accept its even better! A minimalistic and mysterious beginning morphs into a heavy well composed section. Then toward the end, there is a very post-rocky droning section with a choir of voices and a very eminent bass riff that builds and builds until it crashes and a lonely piano fades and ends the album. This is the best song of 2009! (11/10)

This release from the once defunct maudlin of the Well is an absolute masterpiece. It is a must have if you are a fan of complex and amazing music. Any prog fan anywhere should download this free release and give it at least one spin, because I guarantee they will not be disappointed.
