5 stars It's time for some more brain salad surgery in PA.

I do not rate many albums as five stars albums. But this is one of them. I think ELP is a heck of a band and my opinion is partly formed by this album.

Starting with the stirring Jerusalem, this album quickly sets the standard for how the fusion between rock and classical music should sound like. This is not elevator music where the classical music instruments has been replaced with keyboards. Brain Salad Surgery is through and through creativity of the highest order. Brain Salad Surgery is the real thing. Just listen to the likes of Toccata and Karn 9. The real thing indeed ! Inbetween, the ballad You Turn Me On and the vaudeville song Benny The Bouncer is acceptable. Both of them is not my favorites and maybe I should had deducted a star for the inclusion of them. But the rest of the material is so strong that they are forgiven. The best piece of music is off course Karn 9. It is an almost perfect combo of rock and classical music. I also find Jerusalem very good and one of my alltime favorite songs.

I have spent my whole life looking for an album like this and I found Brain Salad Surgery. It is really only a 4.25 stars with Benny The Bouncer dragging down the rating. But I still gives it full house because this albums is one of my five desert islands discs.

5 stars
