4 stars ROMAN SPEKTOR is an Israeli musician, composer bringing to this album elements of industrial rock, experimental pop and traces of hip-hop to create a magnificent sound full of dreams and secrets. 10 songs about the pop-rock world a little hip-hop, but especially with a slightly bewitching sound, a window that many will say in fact crossover-prog. A world of emotions in each song, yes that's what we can find in his 1st album. A fairly recent sound, giving way to airy, slightly leaky and slightly melancholic compositions; sounds that draw on 90s hip-hop, others more recent still where the guitar becomes more present and puts a more ethereal energy; some songs remind me, however, of the sounds at KING CRIMSON for the guitar a little saturated and worked, a little of the creative madness of XTC, a little of the universe of David BOWIE era "Ashe To Ashes" and a little a lot of unique atmosphere in its time of TALKING HEADS. At one point, I also find there the somewhat world and rhythmic airs of the Archangel GABRIEL which he had been able to infuse during his solo career. "Look For ..." with the wonderful voice of Didi made me think of the Bush-Gabriel association from afar. The Gali sax gives a more complex atmosphere by giving a more jazzy sound at times, see a more Crimsonian sound too, it is during these titles that musical purity is most evident in my opinion. "Passivity" denotes a little of the other titles by mixing calm serene atmosphere and invigorating refrain, while leaving the percussions in evidence; the slightly garish voice adds a little singularity and the guitar solo is just divine. "Selling Doors" with the front sax brings the jazzy atmosphere that we often find now in recent years, a fair return to basics ?, the voice is here also a little high. n fact Roman SPEKTOR released an album far from the current musical shackles, far from the progressive sounds of the revival, far from the electro atmospheres of the 90's a little minimalist at times; here, I will add the spontaneity that RADIOHEAD was able to put in its first albums, quite simply. This musician is to be followed because this first draft is worth the trip by offering an innovative playful sound.
