HYPOTHESIS [AKA: VISIONS OF THE FUTURE]

Vangelis from Greece is of course known for his work with Aphrodite's Child, his instrumental keyboard & synth explorations (most notably 'Heaven & Hell' and 'Conquest of Paradise') and his work with John and Vengelis. This record released in 1978 features recordings from the Marquee Studios, London in May 1971. Apparently the album was released without permission of Vangelis. On these fine sounding recordings Vangelis plays a spacey sounding organ and a mouth whistle (!?) and is accompanied by bass, drums and some violin. The music is a type of fully improvised space prog fusion, yet it sounds like quite imaginative music. The improvisations are very creative; fluid and ever in motion, not just a collection of basic themes and solo's. The musicians involved are continually searching for common ground whilst introducing new paths to follow & explore. Because of the active interplay of all musicians and the magical spacey sounds this really is a unique album in many ways. Recommended to listeners of space rock, krautrock, jazz rock and avant-prog.
