Heart of the Matter
3 stars What we get here with the present album is not more (also not less) than a new perspective on some old Jethro Tull's classics, provided this time by his historical axeman and eternal Ian Anderson's sidekick, namely, good old Martin. And being the man in love with the blues from the very beginning of his already long career, the perspective can only be determined by that genre. I know, you would say "but... Jethro's initial sound itself was built on a blues foundation, so, what's to gain here?". Ok, I give you that, but I must remark that the sound of this record is not only infused by, but rather constructed on a solid blues-rock base, so the prism refracts music on that particular angle. The band is fully capable, and Martin brought the mandolin with him, you don't really need to fear any complexity or musicianship loss, even the folkie touches come when required. The vocalist Dan Crisp is also pretty good and fits with the task, thanks to a reasonably raspy voice.

¿What else? Oh, yes, I almost forget, there's a couple of genuine blues classics thrown in for good measure, including the perennial Robert Johnson's "Crosroads"
