3 stars BF is the short name of Beggars Farm, an Estonian outfit not to be confused with the other of the same name. Kuumoon was supposed to be their third album but for different reasons, it never made it until it was released eight years after in 2008, at this point becoming their 5th album. Kuumoon is made of selected tracks sending us back to the year 2000 and a new century soon to emerge. What makes the album especially interesting is the line -up of this album; you will find alongside the founding duo of the Tikas brothers other musicians belonging today to other acknowledged and fine Estonian bands: drummer Madis Zilmer from Phlox, guitarist Tarvo Kaspar Toome, main composer of the Megan Quartet. There are here both studio and live tracks, reminiscences of early 70's Miles Davis and Soft Machine, especially in the keyboards sound, herewith paying tribute to Mike Ratledge's distorded sound conception but also at time its manually sequenced use of riff lines. This dirtyness of electric sound is also used at length by the guitarist, establishing therefore a strong 70's feel. The live tracks have a rather loose improvised character and may seem at times lengthy or directionless but the overall impression is a valid flow of ideas that will be able to transport the listener in various states of mind, from trippy journey to spacy free fall, all fueled by an energetic jazz-rock engine!
