JETHRO TULL's third album "Benefit" was the first one to feature John EVAN on piano and organ; of course, he wasn't an official member of the group yet but still, his performance gave the album a more harmonic sound. This was also the last album to feature Glenn CORNICK before he was replaced with Jeffrey HAMMOND.

The songs in this album are in the same vein as "Stand up" (hard rock guitar riffs, powerful drumming, and, of course, the indispensable flute of ANDERSON) but here the Jazz and Blues songs are completely gone and the band's music evolve into the Progressive Rock/Folk sound that they would keep developing in their 70's albums. Songs as "With you there to help me", "Inside", "To cry you a song" and "Nothing to say" had become classics in JETHRO TULL's repertoire.

This is definitely a before and after in their discography.
