4 stars How would I describe Emerson Lake and Palmer's Brain Salad Surgery? Pompous. This album is when this super group said to themselves let's make an album that will put us in the history books as the most talented rock group to be assembled. I don't know if they accomplished their goal but they still made a mighty fine album in the process. The albums starts off with Jerusalem which is a nice start, but very short. Next is Toccata, all I can say is WOW. Toccata is ELP showing off their amazing talent, Palmer performs some of the coolest drumming licks I have ever heard and, when was the last time you heard a drum sound like a keyboard? Still... You Turn Me On is a very a great ballad that Greg Lake wrote and Greg Lake is actually a pretty good singer/song writer. Next comes Benny the Bouncer which I think is the only real flaw on this album, I think it was meant to just be a fun little filler but, I don't like it because Lake sings it in a weird way that annoys me. Finally, Karn Evil 9 (divided into fourths). What an epic, awesome song. I believe Karn Evil 9 is the magnum opus of ELP and no other of their works come close to this one. If one considers themselves a fan of prog rock these four tracks are considered a must.

Jerusalem 4/5 Toccata 5/5 Still... You Turn Me On 4/5 Benny The Bouncer 2/5 Karn Evil 9 "Karn Evil 9: 1st Impression, Pt. 1" (5/5) "Karn Evil 9: 1st Impression, Pt. 2" "Karn Evil 9: 2nd Impression" "Karn Evil 9: 3rd Impression"

This Album is indeed great and essential to an fan of progressive rock but i will not give it 5 stars. The reason is that I cant listen to it non-stop, Its not a cd that i would leave in my car for a month. I got sick of it after 2 straight listening's, yes its amazing but its to much to take in and Benny the Bouncer brings it down. So i give it 4/5
