GIANT FOR A DAY

This album hurts, seriously: hurts bad. It's not that this is a bad album, it's that this is an AWFUL album, seriously, what on Earth were they thinking? Even the most acceptable songs are not something worth saving. There is absolutely no originality in this record, every song sounds as if they were trying to copy some bad folky pop bands from the late seventies. The lack of quality is a shame and in general terms, there is almost anything good I could say about this record.

I don't know if the band was trying something new or if they just ran out of ideas and started to imitate other mediocre bands (they didn't even copy the good ones) but, frankly, if you haven't heard anything from GENTLE GIANT, please don't start here and if you can totally avoid listening to this I guarantee you there is nothing especially good that you'll be missing. This album (along with "Civilian") is the only reason why GENTLE GIANT is not my absolute favorite Progressive Rock band and I'll always give that title to KING CRIMSON. Averaging the songs in this album the rate I'll give it is two stars: "Collectors/fans only" but I have to say that I am a collector and a fan and I would never buy this record.
