3 stars Listening diary 15th February, 2021: Entropia - Vacuum (post-black metal, 2018)

A really interesting album, even if it isn't a wholly enjoyable one. The recent fusion of psychedelic rock with extreme metal, led by Oranssi Pazuzu and Hail Spirit Noir, has led to some of my favourite albums in the genre of all time, and here Entropia take it to new heights by including what are almost some disco-esque rhythms in a couple of songs here. It's utterly bizzare but oddly groovy and I can definitely see it becoming a decent sound with a bit more refining. But as much as this has some unique textures and compositional decisions, it doesn't quite captivate me throughout on a substance level, with a lot of the songs appearing to miss notable riffs or melodies. It's still got a great psychedelic production and for most of the album that's enough to carry it.
