4 stars A GIFT FOR MY BIRTHDAY: NOT A GREAT COMPILATION OF JAZZ ROCK. IT'S ONLY LATIN MUSIC!

How to define this collection of demos or alternative versions recorded in 1970 (if memory serves me correctly), and published only today, after the tapes were offered for sale and the San Juan Music Group bought them? Sure a good compilation. But how to judge this, all light of the quality of the recordings? Hmm... I do not know how to judge. In fact I stay in front of the straight face that there are dozens of publications with this material (other recordings are not included here), since the San Juan Music Group does not publish their own material which holds the copyright. But said this the general level of these recordings is good, because ready for publication, also if not perfect for mixing.

2 CD's of latin Rock... Or better Latin Music, today music of success. And also Santana today is a succesful musician. In my opinion this is the only motive for all these publications with this material. This publication is extremely good because with the best of of those sessions and because good with its package. Other motive of success is the fact that this compilation is a budget compilation.

Believe me: Santana is a great virtuoso of guitar and these songs are good for a good understand what I said. Not all songs present extended guitar parts or virtuoso guitar moments but all the songs are band songs because in those years (end of 60's/ start of 70's) Santana is a synonim of a band. Of an innovative band. A sort of Psychedelic Latin Music band.

Believe me... Or not... But sure is with songs as these that I discovered Santana and it is with songs as these that I love Santana. Sure today Santana is more complete (as musician) and in this songs you heard only a powerful great axeman, with typical atmospheres of Woodstock generation. But sure you see a magical music, played with magic from a magical band.
