(Considering this an album by THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION and not a FRANK ZAPPA album)

"Weasels ripped my flesh" is one of those hybrid studio/live albums that have some very good songs gathered together with a bunch of nice but not great improvisations. The album includes songs that were recorded from 1967 to 1969 while THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION were experimenting through their characteristic comedy rock and their interesting psychedelic Avant-Garde structured music, so this album is like a great fusion of all the elements that THE MOTHERS had in their previous albums.

Indeed, this record is probably not the best of the ZAPPA/MOTHERS collection, and if you're not very into Avant-Garde weird music with lots of atonal and distorted instruments this would be very hard to swallow ("My guitar wants to kill your mama" and "Oh no" are almost absolutely free from that kind of stuff), at some point, every ZAPPA fan should get through "Weasels ripped my flesh" but probably the best moment to do it is not at the beginning of the ZAPPA-journey.

Once you get to appreciate what THE MOTHERS were doing this album shows its uniqueness.
