This is one of the most recognizable albums by Frank ZAPPA, maybe because it was the first one in which he use his own face as a cover or maybe because of the excellent "Cosmik debris".

"Apostrophe (')" was released in 1974; in this record, we can appreciate the classic ZAPPA band almost completely (George DUKE, Ian UNDERWOOD, Napoleon MURPHY BROCK, Bruce FOWLER, Tom FOWLER, and Ruth UNDERWOOD) among with some familiar names in previous ZAPPA records (Don HARRIS, Jean-Luc PONTY, Sal MARQUEZ, Aynsley DUNBAR and once again the uncredited collaboraiton of TINA TURNER & THE IKETTES) and also here we got a great collaboration with Jack BRUCE in "Apostrophe".

The album is filled with a lot of very nice guitar solos and very funky keyboards; wind instruments were scarce but their appearances were very well ubicated. This is a very varied album that goes from bluesy pieces to some very rocky ones and with a lot of flavor of R&B and Funk. Not a masterpiece, that's for sure, but this is one of those ZAPPA albums that are so accessible that don't seem to have been made by ZAPPA.

SONG RATING: Don't eat the yellow snow, 4 Nabook rubs it, 5 St. Alphonzo's pancake breakfast, 4 Father O'Blivion, 4 Cosmik debris, 5 Excentrifugal forz, 3 Apostrophe', 4 Uncle Remus, 5 Stink-Foot, 5

AVERAGE: 4.33

PERCENTAGE: 86.67

ALBUM RATING: 4 stars
