4 stars This is a great album for lovers of up-beat prog with a real groove. There's plenty of music and musicianship here, with a surprising number of instruments used and a good variety of composition styles. This band have found an excellent balance between pop and prog, expertly combining catchy melodies with some blistering musical breaks worthy of the very best progressive musicians - but with all of their chops, they never lose sight of the song, which sets them apart from many bands in this genre. Comparisons are always useful (though often misleading) in giving a sense of a band's sound, and my first thought when describing Alias Eye is something like this: a little of "ACT", a little of "Ten Jinn", and perhaps a little of "Enchant" and "Tiles" all mixed together with a little "Harry Connick Jr" circa the "She" and "Star Turtle" albums. Get the idea?! I absolutely love this album, and if any of the previously named bands appeal to you, do yourself a favour and give "Alias Eye" a close listen.
