4 stars Cerebrum is a young band from Greece playing technical death metal of the highest calibre. I was knocked out of my shoes when I heard the drums chops, man, this drumer know bussines. So, this band release thir first album in august 2009 named Spectral extravagance , releases at an obscure czech label Lacerated Enemy records. As previous reviewer UMUR said this is a combination of old school death metal not far from famouses Morbid Angel with some progressive elements taken from Cybic or Atheist, the result is this turbulent album Spectral extravagnce. The music is very up tempu with a lots of tempo changes, the guitar is everywhre as is ahould be on this kind of music, the drums is absolute killer, I mean George Kollias is one hell of a drumer, Just check on their myspace page there is one of the pieces Pattern Of Fear , you can see Kollias is a out of this world drummer and one of the most technical I ever seen so far, unbeliveble. Also I oike a lot the voice of Apollon Zigomalas, is just as I like the range on a death metal album, very solid voice with a lot to offer maybe a little close in tone with David Vincent, not only screams and boring parts, this is a true death metal vocalist, great range and very powerfull. As I said the music is top notch, killer musicianship and great atmosphere overall. I liked very first time when I heared the opening track Fragments Of Illusion, mindblowing pieces, the druming is 5 star for sure, technical and very intelligent. Maybe is quite sometime since I heared from A to Z a death metal album, but this Spectral extravagance needs a all the attention, because kicks major ass , belive me. All pieces are recommended aswell like the album, 4 star easy, one of the most mature debutes I heard lately is extreme metal zone. Recommended, and above all the art work and all the booklet works are professional and great made. Well done guys, if the next album will sound at least as good as this one, then I will be very pleased, I'm already a fan. Great stuff, recommended for those who like Atheist, Cynic, Theory in prcatice, or even Watchtower or Morbid Angel.
