4 stars 'Sequoia Throne' - Protest The Hero (Single)

Protest The Hero is a band that not everyone is gonna love, but the fact remains that they are incredibly talented and tight as a musical unit. Despite the talent however, the album I've heard of theirs did not have a great longevity; that is a great deal of replayability before it got a bit annoying compared to most other progressive albums. To this end, despite the tight songwriting and exceptional musicianship, it wasn't as good an album as it could have been. The first half of 'Fortress,' however is still phenomenal, and these just happen to be the two best songs on that half, and the entire album for that matter.

Both of these songs share things in common; rapidfire riffage, hooky melodies and soaring vocals mixed with hardcore growls. While the entire album has these things, the best melodies are here; and the best riffs are here too. 'Sequoia Throne' is basically the song you have to hear to figure out whether or not you will like 'Fortress.' The instrumental versions are also great, letting you focus more on the music than the actual vocals which most people who don't like them have the problem with... In that sense, it's recommended to both fans and non- fans.
