4 stars Just as Marillion's album of acoustic reimaginings of their material, Less Is More, had an associated live release in the form of Live At Cadogan Hall, so too does their album of rock band-plus-strings-and-wind-instruments reinterpretations, With Friends From the Orchestra, have a companion live album in the form of With Friends At St. David's.

Of course, the idea of adding some orchestral friends to Marillion tracks in order to put a bit more pep in their step had enjoyed a previous airing - the very same "Friends From the Orchestra" would lend a hand on the excellent All One Tonight live album. Still, there's not much of an overlap in the material between there and here, so this release is in no sense redundant with that. Loses marks for weak sound at the start, before the sound quality evens out after Gaza.
