2 stars Review #14!

I feel my original one-star review of this album is in desperate need of a rewrite. After listening to 'Ummagumma' again, my opinion on it has changed. But, before I begin, I shall leave my old review for you to read right here.

>>Pink Floyd, you've done us bad. We will always remember how you disappointed us with your half-live/half-studio album 'Ummagumma'. I am not going to talk about every song in this review, just about the album as a whole. The music is boring (monotonous ambience and songs that are unnecessarily split into multiple parts). The lyrics are boring (there are barely any). This feels like one ginormous filler track. And why does it have to be a two-disker? It could've earned a three-star from me if it wasn't. So, so, so, so, SO BORING. I feel like a five-year-old whining about the music in the car, but I shouldn't care. It's that boring.<<

First of all, only half of my opinion has changed. I now only think disk two is absolute trash now. I have come to enjoy the live side. Every live track is better than the original. 'Astronomy Domine' has doubled in length (twice as much to love), 'Careful With Axe, Eugene' feels more strong than the version on 'Relics' (it's probably the best song on this album), 'Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun' sounds more atmospheric and avant-garde (my kind of music), and, last but not least, 'A Saucerful of Secrets'. It is about the same as the original, but I enjoy its edition in this album. I am not going to talk about each individual song on disk two, because I can sum it up with two words: 'hot garbage'. But, all the same, my opinion on this album has changed, and I'm glad. While still not the best, better then I thought it was before. Prog on.
