4 stars The second demo of Dasputnik delivers two fine quality psychedelic spaced out tunes for your listening pleasure. "Cucaracha" rolls open a carpet of ethnic oriented textures, where sonic moods start to alter interestingly due subtle variations in the note scales, shifting from mellow to happiness, grandiose flow of power shimmering with both oppressive and delightful excitement. Distorted guitar riffs strengthen the space rock orientation, and the tenor sax reminds classic Finnish 1970's jazzy prog bands sounds. The rhythm section measures the theme sequence variations along bringing nice additions to baseflow, coloured by pleasant Hammond organs soundwall. "Stalactites Hang from Ceiling, Stalagmites Stick from Ground" (lost-in-cave song?) focuses to more neurotic rhythm and melody relationships within dramatic feelings driven by rhythm guitar and saxophone melody line. After the moody sections band twists some more dynamic gear in and flow to solo sequences built upon harmonic basis oscillating between measured keynotes. The very fine sound mixing escapes the average quality of underground CD-R releases. The chaos of the cover art is nice, but in my opinion the music is more controlled and focused than the impression given by the sleeve. Especially song ends and certain arrangements are very clever and professionally performed. A fine nugget to your musk-flavoured record collection if you can find the album somewhere (ask Finnish hippies from Helsinki or Turku if you meet them).
