4 stars This album is the beggining of the freak music style and way of life. Frank said that he always thought that freak out! would be a hit... it is absolutely marvellous, altough almost commercial. Beginnig with hungry freaks daddy that smashes on america's face the ignorant shit that once was beginning to grow, through to who are the brain police?, another question no one seemed to answer, until, help i'm rock, that transforms into help i'm a cop(!), and monster magnet, the first progsong (?). Of course it has some love songs, that we should hear with a sneer. Zappa rubs love of my life with i ain't got no heart, giving us contraditory sentiments and implying in a very artistic/inteligent way that we should listen and understand the world and/or the art with criticism and personality. Of course Frank would flourish all these songs afterwards, but the recording has a drive that excedes most of the things that other rock artists were doing at that time. Absolutely brilliant!
