MARILLION.COM

Not all Marillion fans enjoy 'Radiation,' the predecessor to 'Marillion.com.' Personally, I enjoy 'Radiation' and I believe that it's one of the most underrated albums in Marillion's discography. 'Marillion.com' is, in my opinion, Marillion's weakest album to date. I can't help but think, "what were the Marillion boys thinking?" when I listen to this mediocre album. The one track that I would say I enjoy is "Go!" "Tumble Down the Years" is pleasant but ultimately forgettable. The rest of the album is lackluster. I find "Rich" and "Built-in Bastard Radar" to be incredibly irritating with their annoying melodies and hooks. "Interior Lulu" is a hot mess of a song, especially considering that it's 15 minutes in duration, which is exceedingly long for such an insipid piece. Based on what I've heard, I have a feeling the band themselves don't particularly love this song either. Finally, this enigmatic album ends with a ten minute lounge jazz piece entitled "House," which leaves me in a state of utter bewilderment by the end. The song is stagnant from start to finish. Quite honestly, the same thing could be said about 'Marillion.com' as a whole; this album is incredibly dull. Every now and then I revisit this album to see if my opinions of the music have changed. Unfortunately, every time I listen to 'Marillion.com,' I remind myself of why I detest it so much, and that has remained the same since I first listened to it years ago. Marillion have been and will always be one of my favorite bands of all time, but even I can't deny that this album was a mistake. 3/10
