3 stars The Bends is a good pop album with many catchy guitar riffs and nice melodies, Thom's singing is really powerful and the album is pretty consistent all the time. I liked it as a teenager, but I'm not interested in it anymore. It's a good way to start to move on to better music if you were listening to FM radio and MTV songs before, as Yes or ELP might be shocking and inaccesible for the unprepared listener. But this album gets boring pretty soon. I give it 3 stars because I liked it very much in the past. If I listened to it for the first time today, it would probably get one less.
