Artist : IMANISSIMO Title : The Z's Diary Year : 2004

What made me saying that this album is so special to me. One of the reasons is just because maybe that the music was created by Indonesian young talented musicians, the country that does not have much a progressive tradition in music, but IMANISSIMO did well in their 2nd album, THE Z's DIARY. A concept stuff that telling a journey of a man named Captain Z from the time he was born until he found himself as a MAN. Actually there is not so much new trends of progressive in this concept stuff. It is just like what you found in the stuffs such as The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway from Genesis, The Tommy of The Who, Snow Goose by Camel, or even Scenes from a Memory by Dream Theater and many other progressive concept albums. Yes of course, it'll become very special and rare thing, especially in the Indonesian music scene and horizon.

Now, let's go the the music. I don't wanna tell you track by track, but instead, I can say that IMAN ISMAR, the bass player, main composer and considered as leader of the band and the rest of band member have proven that they have been able to create progressive album brilliantly. The music that combines elements of symphonic, spacey psychedelic, prog metal, Indonesian ethnic sounds and world music into a unique blend and hence, very enjoyable to the prog ears. You can imagine, a repetitive and spacey style in the vein of Ozric Tentacles meets the classic keyboard style of Jordan Rudess, and guitar riffs and shredding that used to be found in prog metal. Also situated by Indonesian traditional ethnic sounds, atmospheric chants.. very exciting..to me it's close to perfection. I'm telling you this, it's not just because Iman and Ponco are friends of mine. I truly write my impressions based on the music I have been listening to, from the fisrt time I received the cd. I have also their debut album, but I think they have much progress in their 2nd album.

To this excellent album I would put at least 4 **** as my appreecitation to what they have made in The Z's Diary.... highly recommended. I would also say thank you to my friend Andy Julias, the chairman of Indonesian Progressive Society (IPS) who has given his best efforts and energy to produce this excellent stuff to us, the prog lovers... I can't wait any longer to see the next IPS stuffs in the near future....
