OCTAHEDRON

This album really strips away a lot of what makes the mars volta unique, but despite that I have to say that I really like it. As progressive rock listeners we sometimes tend to equate "different" with "good" and while tmv's previous album was surely different, I found it to be unlistenable. This album is more reliant on the vocals than others, so I wouldnt recommend it to someone who is turned off by the singer, but I had actually been waiting for an album where they could use the vocals like this. One of my favorite songs on De-loused (still their best album) was televators and this is a really good album for someone who liked televators. Octahedron is not a masterpiece, but it is a very solid album which listeners will find much more accessible than some of their other releases.
