3 stars I remember when this movie first came out in the 1970's. It was shown with quad sound and there was an excitment in the air to see just how this great music that we all loved so much was created. It was an event that remained a sell out midnight show everytime that it was shown. After I saw it for the first time,I was impressed by the music and the concept of playing to an empty house, even if the house is an ancient temple! I did think that the original film was a bit short. You know, leaves you wanting more.Well, when this dvd was released I just had to pick it up.I do think that the original film holds up well after all of these years, although not the finest PINK FLOYD music ever created, this film showcases the band at perhaps their most innovative moments. As for the director's cut,my advice is to watch the original film first. The director's cut intersplices space scenes and footage that adds little to the original work as a whole, and tends to distract from the continuity of the film. But,hey,it's his movie right? But you do get two complete versions of the film and a bunch of extras, some of which and pretty good (posters, pics) and some pretty useless (map of Pompeii). Any true PINK FLOYD fan will dig this one!
