3 stars "Shades of Green" is a compilation featuring selections from the band's first 4 albums, their "classic" period. There are 4 tracks from the first album, 3 each from the 2nd and 3rd and 4 from their 4th, which in my opinion is their weakest. (I don't think I'm Robinson Crusoe there!) As the band only recorded approximately 160 minutes of music during this period, a double CD may have seen all 4 albums represented in their entirety, so obviously some serious culling was required from this very under-rated band.

Whist the selection is very good, some personal favourites have missed out, namely, "An English Western" from the first album, "Time To Dream" from "Bedside Manners Are Extra", "Melancholic Race" from "Spyglass Guest" and probably the best track(s) from "Time & Tide" "Waltz For A Fallen Idol/Ass's Ears"

All in all a pretty good selection though, as the bands output was consistently very good (especially the first three albums) A good start for those that are unfamiliar with the band but I suggest you grab their first album and work through them in order from there.
