2 stars **½ is quite accurate.

Oh dear! Something seems to horribly wrong this album - wait; could it be that the shorter songs are either boring, awful or both. As an exception I have to mention Jerusalem, which is the standout track - great idea and great adaptation. But after that, Toccata is non-sensical, Still You Turn Me On is a meaningless, boring ballad with ultra-cheesy lyrics, and Benny the Bouncer is a truly horrible, horrible piece of total crap, which I think is supposed to be humorous, but I can't laugh, it just pisses me off.

The only reason (other than Jerusalem) of me not giving this album 1 stars, is that Karn Evil 9 has some classic unforgettable prog rock moments. It's a great epic, with catchy melodies and ingenious, truly innovative instru-passages (mainly Emerson showing off of course, that's what ELP is all about), and Greg Lake's soft and lovely voice.
