4 stars By invitation of Claudio Milano, I was graced with a review copy of Nichelodeon's 'Il gioco del silenzio' ' CD, and DVD. I believe the title loosely translated is 'The game of silence.'

What an honor, and what a piece of artfully crafted, mind bending, challenging and very rewarding experience. As a compliment, this is very, very Italian. And not just because it's sung in Italian, the music is instantly recognizable as that romantic classical flare combined seamlessly to a very dark presentation.

As others have pointed out on their wonderful reviews, this is music that truly defines Avant Rock. Although somewhat in the RIO styling, this is really more cinematic and personal. Points of reference are almost impossible. Maybe a bit similar to Picchio Dal Pozzo's latest studio album 'Pic Nic Valdapozzo.'

With such diverse, vocal prominent music, this album takes you on quite a ride through emotions. From extreme violence (again, not in the traditional RIO fashion) to lush beauty. And speaking of vocals, man can Claudio sing with softness and strength ' almost simultaneously. The instrumentation is quite spread out, and even though there is bass, guitar and drums, they're not used in the traditional sense, as they're really never is that strong kick drum/snare drum, locked with bass type fusing. It is more that percussion and bass are parts of an orchestra.

The recording is quite modern, as is the overall production. The packaging is great, giving solid liner notes and each song is translated into English right next to the Italian. I have not had time to watch the DVD, and will possibly add my thoughts later on, but it's great that they're taking their art in many media directions.

To sum this up, listen to the samples provided by Nichelodeon's Myspace site and enjoy the cinema show. Then if you love this as much as I do, if you enjoy challenging your traditional prog taste, or if this style of music is already 'your cup of tea' ' please purchase a copy, as it will be rewarding music for many, many years.

Thank you to Nichelodeon, I cannot wait to see where your muse takes you on the next release!
